MY PICK
OF THE MONTH
Alberta, Canada. Doctor James Makokis identifies as "two-spirit" - a term used by and for indigenous LGBT+ people in North America who identify with both masculinity and femininity, and which harks back to pre-colonial third gender roles.

THE
TEAM
IS
ME
People always ask if they could "speak to someone on the team" or "you guys do a lot" and
I always smile when I inform them that the team is just me, myself, and I
.I am grateful to have any type of platform
I do this for my people. to amplify Indigenous voices, decolonize myself, and to share culture
I also want to shine a light on decolonization
hopefully highlighting the need for everyone to decolonize back to their cultural traditional backgrounds
Not to become us
but to become stronger allies
who unplug from systems that oppress us all
and to become accomplices

Today marks 10 years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada released its Final Report and 94 Calls to Action. Thanks to the tremendous courage of Survivors who shared their truths, this country has spent the last decade engaged in a long-overdue conversation about the true history of these lands and its First Peoples.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all Survivors for their bravery and for guiding the nation toward reconciliation. But gratitude is not enough.
All Canadians, all governments, and all institutions must honour our sacred commitment. As we are reminded by Prime Minister Carney
[https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/statements/2025/12/15/statement-prime-minister-carney-marking-10-years-release-final-report]
we must strive to "build a future where Survivors are honoured with remembrance, with justice, and with a stronger, fairer Canada."
This milestone is not a celebration but a crucial moment for reflection. We urge all #Canadians to listen, learn, and act with integrity. And we look to all levels of government to tangibly recommit to the 94 Calls to Action, acknowledging this vital journey is nowhere near complete.

SHARING FROM WKSR: "WKSR Official Flyer 2025 [Wounded Knee Survivor Run]
This year marks our 14th year running in commemoration of the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890, honoring the ancestors who escaped and ran from the U.S. Army's mass killing of the Lakota people.
Many Mnicoujou, Hunkpapa, and Oglala relatives fled unarmed-children, elders, men, and women-forced to escape through blizzards, deep snow, ice, and brutal terrain. The military searched for any tracks they could find, pursuing those who survived the
massacre at Wounded Knee.
We run from the Wounded Knee site back to Cheyenne River, retracing over 160 miles, the path some of our ancestors took to survive for us to be here today.
We have many descendants who join the run each year, and many more who support from the sidelines, including our allies. All are welcome."
